UPSAHL Brought The Melt Me Down Tour To London!

Starting off the night was Ellie Dixon who at first, I thought was an odd choice of opener but after seeing her set, she was the perfect opener for UPSAHL’s show! She had amazing stage presence and funky upbeat songs with catchy bass and entertaining lyrics. Telling us the story behind each song before playing them and handing out biscuits to the fans mid-set, even knighting a front row fan with her sword. She didn’t just put on a support slot; she created a full-blown performance piece all while showing us the behind the scenes of how she self-produces all her songs and includes layered vocals as harmonies throughout, much like UPSAHL herself.

After an amazing support, it was time for UPSAHL to take to the stage, entering wearing a blue latex outfit and coat, she brought the energy starting off with her latest release ‘Tears On The Dancefloor’ which was the perfect way to get the party started, before leading into ‘No Hands’ and ‘Monica Lewinsky’, ramping the energy up more and more with each song. UPSAHL always brings the energy and insane vocals to go with. She had the crowd jumping and singing along all night while switching between bass and guitar and upbeat and slower songs like ‘Toast’. The tour had a fire and ice theme and was split into 2 parts with outfit changes. The Setlist included 28 songs with 3 covers and was put together in such a well-thought-out order, with lighting to complement each song including green lighting during ‘Money On My Mind’. ‘Wish You’d Make Me Cry’ was requested by a fan on Twitter and as a result ended up on the tour setlist. I was a big fan of the slower songs that really made UPSAHL’S vocal range shine through such as ‘Antsy’ and ‘Condoms’. She then left us listening to ‘SLAYYYY’ and a voice recording of how she came up with the tour theme, it also included a little teaser about the upcoming album, while she changed into her red outfit for the fire part of the show.

The fire section of the show started off strong with ‘Summer So Hot’ before leading into ‘Sunny D’, bringing up the energy even more. Ellie Dixon then made a surprise appearance back on stage to sing ‘Heads Will Roll’ by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs with UPSAHL. She then sang ‘Sick Pretty Mind’ and ‘12345SEX’ before showing us an unreleased ‘Cut Em Off’ which sounded so good, and I think I speak for the whole crowd when I say we’d like it released as soon as possible. Next up was ‘0 or 100’ and I can’t get over how amazing her voice was as it is put on display throughout this song. Ryan Upsahl joined her sister on stage to sing ‘Arizona’ together and I must say that clearly, the musical genes are strong in this family as she had an incredible voice too and they harmonised so well together. They then continued to play a cover of ‘Good in Bed’ by Dua Lipa which UPSAHL helped co-write. ‘Good Girl Era’ turned into a mash-up with The Tings Tings’ ‘That’s Not My Name’ which got everyone joining in again. UPSAHL continued to show off her multi-instrumental talents switching between electric and acoustic guitar and bass throughout the rest of the show. With her ‘ice cube on fire’ sign glowing behind her, she finished off her set with ‘Thriving’, fan-favourite ‘Lunatic’, ‘Wet White Tee Shirt’ and hit single ‘Drugs’. The evening concluded with ‘People I don’t Like’ and ‘Sad Sorry After Party’ which again was the perfect song to end on, as everyone jumped, letting off their very last bit of energy.

These 2 red-haired, bass-playing, self-producing artists put on one hell of a show and really put so much thought into their sets while prioritising the fans’ experience and crowd interaction. I’ve been to a lot of concerts this year, but this one will definitely be up at the top as one of the best ones!
