REVIEW: RØRY Drops New Album titled 'RESTORATION'
I am going to be totally honest; this was the first time I have had the chance to listen to RØRY... All I have to say is that I am totally in love and this is one artist not to be slept on, there is a reason she is backed by Kerrang! and BBC Radion 1 after all.
As someone who struggles with their mental health, I have never heard an album that resonates with me much like this masterpiece crafted by RØRY.
The new album is called ‘RESTORATION’ and let me tell you, it is a literal journey through personal struggle and mental health but what I really like about this album is the undertone that things get better and can be overcome.
Officially set to release on January 31, 2025, the album has already seen significant interest and attention from music lovers. This is undoubtedly due to its deeply emotional and difficult themes... And obviously, RØRY's absolutely stunning vocals, which has honestly blown me away.
From the very first track, “If Pain Could Talk, What Would It Say?”, RØRY sets the tone with an intensely personal narrative. This opening track feels like as a listener you are literally looking into her mind. However, the biggest highlight of this song is the hardcore guitar playing halfway through this track, genuinely mesmerizing and you can't help but bang your head along to it.
And remember, this is only the beginning, each subsequent song delves deeper into the life and mind of RØRY, creating an almost therapeutic listening experience, especially if you are a long-time fan already – this album will only make you feel closer to her.
Tracks like “One Drink Away” and “Sorry I’m Late” stand out not only for their emotional reflection but also for their relatability, especially for those who may struggle with their demons. “One Drink Away” reflects heavily on one's battle with addiction, offering a hauntingly honest portrayal of the day-to-day struggles faced by those in recovery. Meanwhile, “Sorry I’m Late” delivers an emotional rant against the lack of understanding for mental health challenges, resonating deeply with listeners who have faced similar frustrations, such as myself.
Overall, RESTORATION is a dynamic and multifaceted album. It offers genre-blending elements between music which is something that the world of music needs to stay interesting whilst still offering a sense of familiarity. RØRY incorporates elements of alt-rock, pop-punk, and even hip-hop into this genre defying album and we are so here for it.
“Wolves” really showcases RØRY’s vocal talent, her range in this song alone is genuinely award worthy, the fact she can deliver such raw vocals whilst keeping up with the constant changing tempo in this track is just beautifully satisfying and to be honest might make it my favourite in this album.
What makes RESTORATION truly special is RØRY’s fearless honesty and as previously said, offers the listener a window into her struggles and personal life which is just beautiful. Every lyric feels almost autobiographical as if she’s opened her diary and set her words to music. This transparency showcases her artistry and creates a powerful connection with her audience, which you just love to see!
As she closes the album with “The Atheist”, a spoken-word piece reflecting on hope and resilience, listeners are left with a message that is both inspiring and uplifting: survival and recovery are possible.
Overall, RESTORATION is a testament to RØRY’s talent. It’s an album that’s as much about a personal journey as it is about creating a shared space for listeners to feel seen and understood. Whether you’re drawn in by the melodic melodies, the raw words, or the multi-genre production, this is an album that demands to not just be listened to but to be experienced.
I know its only the beginning of the year but RESTORATION secures RØRY’s place as one of 2025’s most compelling artists that you must keep your eyes and ears open for.
