Red Handed Denial releases its first single, Parasite, off its new album, A Journey Through Virtual Dystopia

Toronto-based metalcore band Red Handed Denial have released their first single from the upcoming album. As soon as I caught wind that new music was coming, I immediately got excited. The previous album, I’d Rather Be Asleep, gave us banger after banger, so I had high expectations for new music.

From the jump, Parasite is very on brand with what I’ve grown to love from the band. It starts out very aggressive, dynamic, and in your face. Vocalist Lauren Babic seems to have ascended levels in her vocal work, producing screams I have never heard come from her before. The guitar work from Chris Mifsud, along with bassist Dominick De Kause and drummer Tyson Dang, is so driving and punishing that you can feel the anger in the song musically.

Leading into the chorus, Babic shows how dynamic her voice is with her beautiful, melodic yet powerful vocals. In the second verse, Babic again shows her versatility, effortlessly switching between harsh and clean vocals. The breakdown at the end of the song made me want to absolutely wreck everything in the immediate area.

This song is everything I wanted and more from a new RHD release. It’s familiar, yet new and refreshing at the same time. I cannot wait for more releases from this album or to see them performed live. You can catch Red Handed Denial on tour in support of Unprocessed starting on April 4th and continuing through May 4th.
