Heather McDowall Releases Dreamy EP, ‘Existential Elixir’

Singer, songwriter Heather McDowall has recently released her EP ‘Existential Elixir’. The EP is made up of six impressive tracks that are personal and tell a story through emotions. A moving collection of tracks, dreamy vocals and vulnerable lyrics are a highlight.

With a stripped back opening, ‘Place For Me’ easily showcases her stunning vocal skill right from the get-go. A soft acoustic guitar runs subtly alongside higher expressive vocals. Three minutes of raw emotion draws to a close gently pulling you in, truly a challenge not to get emotional.

‘Blue’ has a twinkling riff and is an expression of inner dialogue, for all the fellow people pleasers out there, this one will hit even harder. Bursting with a drum beat at the bridge, and an impressive fill the track rises in energy and compliments the more powerful vocals.

‘Underneath Of It All’ and ‘Sake of Honesty’ (my personal favourite) continue cohesively in sound with soft pop melodies and tender vocals. The slower pace and instrumental backing alongside layered vocals further draw out emotions.

‘Goodbye’ is a haunting outro with an impressive soundscape before bonus track ‘Indigo Eyes’ finalises the EP. A final rendition of velvety vocals and a steady beat.

‘Existential Elixir’ is a beautiful collection of heartbreak, navigating life and growth. It’s impossible to make it through all the tracks without feeling the pull of emotion. Heather McDowall is a master of touching vocals and soulful storytelling.

Make sure to stream this brilliant EP, out now, and catch Heather live at her upcoming headline gig on September 28 at Firebug in Leicester.
