Delilah Bon took over Norwich for the evening!
The evening started off with tiLLie, an American artist who describes her music as ‘Nightmare Pop’. Tackling many important societal issues such as Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault, Delilah Bon couldn’t have picked a better opener to get her crowd ready each night! tiLLie tells us the backstory of each song before playing them and introduces the characters that represent each storyline in her ‘TiLLieVerse’ to help convey her message. Her sound is very much up-beat bass-heavy pop with catchy melodies and powerful lyrics. Having seen tiLLie supporting Girli back in June, it was so great getting to see her again and performing her songs for more audiences in more cities. If you are looking for song recommendations before taking a deep dive into her music, I suggest ‘mOmS bAsEmeNt’, ‘beTh aMpHeTamiNe’, ‘kooL aiD mAn’, ‘the me u kno’ and her latest single ‘Christian With A Gun’.
It was then time for Delilah Bon to take to the stage, starting off strong with ‘Brat’ before leading into ‘Grown Ass Men’. The room was packed out as this leg of the tour had fully sold out, and everyone came together to let out their rage making for a very therapeutic and cathartic evening. Delilah Bon was joined on stage by her band who really enhanced the experience re-enacting the song’s lyrics with many costume and prop changes. It was so nice seeing a crowd singing all the lyrics back and letting everything out instead of filming everything on their phones like many concerts nowadays. The band did an amazing job of creating such a fully immersive live show, with many crowd interactions throughout the entire show.
The crowd were the loudest during ‘I Wish a Bitch Would’ and ‘Dead Men Don’t Rape’, singing along with their fists in the air and headbanging along. Delilah Bon made that room a safe space for everyone to let loose and feel a sense of community, bringing like-minded people together. Her music speaks out about so many societal issues whilst simultaneously helping people feel less alone and giving them music to listen to as an outlet and to help people work through things. She helped spread awareness on topics such as Sexual Assault and LGBTQ+ rights armed with pride flags and a ‘Trans rights are human rights’ flag, as well as her bassist having ‘we will not be silenced’ taped on the back of her bass.
I particularly enjoyed ‘Clown’ and ‘I Wish A Bitch Would’ this evening. Delilah Bon even added in many extra screams during several songs that were incredible. The concert had such an empowering atmosphere, and I am sure it will be a concert to remember for many of her fans in attendance.
