Chrissy Costanza and VOILÀ's Spin The Bottle Tour Brought the Energy to London

Chrissy Costanza and VOILÀ brought the Spin The Bottle Tour to Europe! Having recently completed the first leg in North America, it was time to bring it overseas. This tour was a co-headline but different to other co-headline tours. Instead of one band playing their set and then the next band, they decided to alternate songs, keeping the crowd on their toes, and making sure everyone showed up for both bands while introducing the fans to each other’s music. Luke Eisner of VOILÀ (Guitar/keys/vocals) and Jarad Kleinsten (touring drummer) remained on stage for the whole 29 song setlist while Chrissy Costanza and Gus Ross (VOILÀ) took it in turns on vocals.

With both Chrissy and VOILÀ releasing new music, it was the perfect time for them to go on tour together. VOILÀ was involved with the song writing on Chrissy’s debut solo EP ‘VII’. Their song writing skills are unmatched, they don’t have a single bad song and I honestly wonder how they never run out of ideas and manage to make every song so unique with such incredible lyrics. As for Chrissy’s EP, I cannot stop listening to it, I can’t say I really listened to her music from her band, Against The Current but I am a big fan of her solo music.

The night started off with a pre-show playlist playing all the 2000s emo hits, to get the fans singing along and warmed up ready for what they had in store. Then both VOILÀ and Chrissy took to the stage to perform their Against The Current collaboration ‘Caught It’ together. Chrissy then left the stage for VOILÀ to perform some of their fan favourites ‘Drinking with Cupid’, ‘Don’t Say I Didn’t Warn You’ and ‘Table for One’ as the crowd roared, singing every single word back to them.

Then it was Chrissy’s turn, singing ‘But, What if I fly?’, ‘If Looks Could Kill’, ‘Some Like It Hot’ and covering Against The Current’s ‘Wildfire’. She kept the energy up while simultaneously channelling all her emotions into every note of her incredible vocals. VOILÀ then took to the stage again with hard-hitting ‘Therapy’ before bringing the energy down a notch with an acoustic ‘Long story Short’. Chrissy then re-joined them on stage to perform ‘It’s Got A Ring To It' before Gus left the spotlight to Chrissy once again for ‘I tried to Act Your Age’ where she gave a little speech about how important it is to enjoy the present moment instead of wishing to grow up before continuing with ‘Pick Your Poison’ and ‘Perfect Crime’.

She then dived into an acoustic mash-up of many well-known songs which had the crowd joining in and cheering once again. The mash up was songs you would never had thought to put together, but they made them work so well, seamlessly transitioning between them, showcasing Chrissy’s vocal range and putting her at the forefront. A lucky fan was picked to come up on the stage and spin the wheel to pick the surprise song for the evening which ended up being VOILÀ’s ‘Drop Dead Gorgeous’. Chrissy then showed us an unreleased single called ‘What If Sin Could Save Me’ which has left me highly anticipating its release.

It was once again, VOILÀ’s turn to show off their new music with ‘Glass Half Empty’ from their Glass Half Empty Album as well as some of their older songs off their previous albums. They just released the second part of their latest album, and I am obsessed with it especially ‘All Sales Are Final’ featuring Lauren Sanderson and ‘Ballerina’ featuring The World Alive’. As I said before, they don’t have a single bad song so you should go check it out!

Then Chrissy performed one of my favourite songs of the night, ‘You’d Be Right’. It is super catchy and was even better live, it was definitely one of the highlights of the evening for me, the crowd listened in complete silence and awe. They then regrouped again to perform ‘Wish It On You’ with Chrissy covering AViVA’s lyrics.

The crowd chanted for an encore and patiently awaited their return. They ended the set with Voilà’s ‘Figure You Out’, Chrissy covering Against The Current’s ‘Legends Never Die’ from League of Legends before they pulled  out all the stops and left everything they had left to give on stage with ‘7 Minutes in Hell’, the single that started this whole project and tour.

Having waited years to see VOILÀ and Chrissy Costanza (I kept missing Against The Current’s tour dates), it was certainly a night to remember! The amount of thought that has gone into both of their bodies of work and all the world-building around them is insane! It was also evident that the fan’s experience was of the utmost importance when planning the tour, setlist and all the minute details that have gone into this whole project. These artists are seriously slept on, and I can’t wait to see what they create next. It was the most perfect partnership, and if you didn’t get to go to the tour, you certainly missed out!
