Boys Like Girls in Richmond, VA
A hot summer day falls upon what is set to be a memorable night. And I’ve been to 500+ shows. Arriving to the venue almost two hours early due to my own anticipation, I was surprised to see a sold out show line already wrapped around. That's full commitment right there, especially in 98 degree +weather.
As people flood in, the openers take the stage. To everyone's surprise there was local VA band opening up. A pleasant surprise for none other VA very own Red Weather, your mom’s favorite emo band (if you know you know). Red Weather gives a very pop punk emo vibe cross sound with the energy of soon to be titans in the industry! I would definitely have to recommend their newest EP 'Felt Like Home.' So disappointed in myself for this show to be my first time seeing them live.
Keeping the energy going, Grayscale takes the stage with such swagger. Fans screams erupted as the first note of Just Right starts. *SHMMMAK* is all I heard…and felt as a crowd surfers make their way to the pit and to my head. But nothing could compare to the crowd as "In Violet" starts to play. The boys on stage was straight grooving off the energy of the crowd.
The moment everyone was waiting for the whole night…some even YEARS- sorry, sorry need to contain myself. What felt like an absolute fever dream the one and only BOYS LIKE GIRLS takes the stage. NO, they controlled that stage!!! They immediately established the energy. Never, I mean ever, have a band sound so pristine that I forgot everything in a quick moment. I felt like I was immediately transported in to another dimension. BLG took the reins song after song cramping what felt like their entire discography in one night. Guitar picks flying just was much as the crowd was….and there was A LOT of guitar picks flying. They were playing songs that you could’ve only known back in the limewire days literally nowhere else. If you were to tell me there was a band that had maxed out charisma, intelligence, humor, & agility character traits you’d obviously assume BLG. Truly a night to never forget. I beg of you please catch any and all shows they’re playing!
