Bea & her Business Put On An Incredible Show at KOKO, London
Kickstarting the evening at KOKO in London was Erica Manzoli, starting her set out with ‘Manic Pixie Dream Girl’ before playing an unreleased ‘Burn the Internet’. The crowd seemed to really enjoy her set, especially with her giving a little backstory of each song before playing it. I also really enjoyed her cover of Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Taste’ accompanied by her electronic harp which was really cool to see and got the whole crowd involved.
It was then time for Bea & her Business to take to the stage. She glided onto the stage wearing a beautiful custom-made red dress that matched the velvet curtains draped around the stage, backlit with lots of dimly lit lamps and accompanied by her band and a string quartet. It was apparent how much effort went into the production of this show. There was even a table decorated with an old phone, flowers, and candles at centre stage.
The tour setlist was given a makeover for this show and our ears were graced with ‘All The Boys’ and ‘Never Ever Love A Liar’ which was one of my favourites this evening, before debuting an unreleased song ‘We Are Not The Same’. Bea has a super distinctive mature voice while still sounding familiar. Her song writing is also very strong by managing to combine such relatable lyrics with interesting melodies and injecting so much emotion into every song. The whole crowd was singing along loudly and dancing all night while Bea put on such a performance, keeping the energy up all night, and interacting with the crowd, while leaving everything she had to give on the stage.
Another notable moment of the show was when she climbed into the crowd to sing ‘Sunburnt Shoulders’, it was such a heartfelt moment and I’m sure all the attendees will be thinking about it for a while to come. I really enjoyed ‘Safety Net’ too, her latest single that helped me discover her music last month, the crowd was especially loud for this one. She then climbed up onto the table and sang ‘If I Was A God’ so angelically while be basking in white lights. She then went on to tell us how she played that song especially for a fan in the crowd that said they’d fly to London for the show from Amsterdam, if she played it. I think we would all like to thank that fan for making this moment happen as it was so beautiful to watch.
Next up was ‘Party Politics’ which is another unreleased song that was played on her last tour, I can’t wait for this one to be released! It was more upbeat and had all the lamps flickering in time with the beat. She then performed ‘Nightmare Being 19’, ‘Smoking Lessons’, ‘Too Loud (And That’s The Way I’m Going Out)’ before ending the set with ‘Good Things’ that had the crowd chanting the lyrics back. She then concluded the night with ‘Born To Be Alive’ as her encore.
Putting on such an incredible show so early on in her career, makes me super excited to see her progress in the future. I highly recommend going to her upcoming LA and NYC shows if you can, it will be a night to remember!
