Aaron West and The Roaring Twenties - Alone At St. Luke’s
A month after releasing second single ‘Paying Bills At The End Of The World,’ Aaron West is treating us to another snippet of his third album ‘In Lieu of Flowers’.
Aaron West is a concept character created by Dan Campbell of The Wonder Years and The Roaring Twenties are his band. Through each album we get a little look into Aaron’s life; the first album covering a series of losses which reshape his life. The second album follows Aaron through a variety of scenarios, with the ultimate goal of finding purpose and redemption. But it’s not just the albums that shape the story, it’s the shows, the interactions with the fans and the journey we are taken on. This leads us up to the latest single: ‘Alone at St. Luke’s.’
The inspiration behind this song comes from the bands UK tour in 2022. During this tour, the band all became sick with Covid apart from Dan Campbell. The decision was made to continue the tour alone; something that then became part of the ever-expanding story of Aaron West and The Roaring Twenties.
‘Alone At St. Luke’s’ starts off with a sense of excitement and joy. We begin the story at the height of a tour and you can feel the genuine excitement to be playing shows. The lyrics follow the antics and exploits of the band and are told through the ever powerful voice of Aaron. As we reach the chorus, we’re treated to horns and booming drums which feels like a celebration and takes the song to its highest point.
Following the second chorus, all of this falls apart and Aaron is once again alone to continue his journey. The band are gone and we are left with an acoustic guitar and the melodic voice of Aaron as he finishes out the song in a quiet, thoughtful and emotional final chorus; a stark contrast to the joyous beginning.
For those who aren’t following the band, this is a perfect time to jump in and experience some truly epic story telling; reaching the highest of highs before hurtling down into the lowest of lows. Aaron West And The Roaring Twenties’ new album ‘In Lieu of Flowers’ is out on the 12th April via Hopeless Records and you can catch the band on tour in the US at the end of April, the UK in May, before returning to the US in June for another string of shows.
